Woah Is Me 02:48
Wooooooah is me Has your ego been protecting you? Or just surrounding you swooning in fear? You can’t please everyone But you can sure piss a lot of them off When it’s so sad you hate to see it But more than that you love it, too You can’t rip off what I already gave ya But, hey, surprises are ok when nothing really matters Woooooah is me Do this so I get excited Do that so I won’t be let down The picture I painted of myself Might not be the one you see Like a children’s book, so easy to read Unless I guess you’re just a child that is Never thought I should be born again› Hey, if I really wanted to die I’d already be dead Why you over there trying to poison my mojo Woah
2.
Asshole Eyes 02:33
Here come them asshole eyes, baby He got them asshole eyes He got them asshole eyes He got them asshole eyes I don’t like ya, refuse to hate ya We’re all chained to the graveyard, baby It takes a village to make the idiot You are what happens to you He got them asshole eyes, oh oh oh He got them asshole eyes They got them asshole eyes He got them asshole eyes So many people don’t want redemption They’ll tell ya something is unforgivable So there’s no reason to ever change And so it never does They got them asshole eyes, hey hey hey He got them asshole eyes They got them asshole eyes He got them asshole eyes If you think you can’t be what you’re trying real hard to be I want you to know that I believe in ya, buddy A revolution’s no longer radical There are so many that everyone’s got one Your revolutions, they happen so fast You can’t complete the change So, rest them asshole eyes, baby Look at them asshole eyes They got them asshole eyes You got them asshole eyes

Are all my friends gonna be strangers? Is someone gonna save me ‘cause I can’t? I’m just trying to be a good dude Just trying not to die blue But all my trauma keeps hangin’ around I never really forget, but I always remember Reflection bounces you back to right where you are I’m just trying to fit in Where I let myself in But all my trauma keeps takin’ me out I guess you win some and lose the rest My imagination is nothing but truth to me My truth is only mine and yours I can’t see Now the only thing left for me Is to rebel against reality But all my trauma keeps hangin’ around I’m just trying to be a good dude Just trying not to die blue I guess you win some and lose the rest

I watched you fighting I didn’t love you, but it’s beautiful ‘Cause now I recognize your purpose was beyond me Now I want you to know that the beauty I see Is the rebellion you're not looking for an excuse for I guess I must’ve died Somewhere up in heaven ‘Cause see, my heart turns cold But I’m hot as fuck all over everywhere else We’ll find a way to make a way out of no way or fake it ‘til it’s finally over Am I supposed to care so much I didn’t make the rules I’m not even sure there’s supposed to be any I guess that’s just how it goes when you grow up with Michael Jordan, PJ Harvey, Dennis Rodman, Kurt Cobain… people like that Well guess what? Nike don’t love you, Mtv don’t love you They just tryin’ to sell you something you can’t afford They’ll make your depression look cool if they have to Right, Ali? He said this The whole thing’s crumbling down and you just sit there trying to sell your chump ass on the same damn thing that got you sick in the first place We never cross the line Enough to win or die ‘Cause they just keep moving it forward One step ahead on us We’ll find a way to make a way out of no way or fake it ‘til it’s finally over Am I supposed to care so much Y’all stop tryin’ to be your idols They’re the ones that told you that Start doin’ what’s now And stop bullshittin’ your fake romantic past We’ll find a way to make a way out of no way or fake it ‘til it’s finally over Am I supposed to care so much Am I supposed to care so much

Wakin' Up 03:40
I once had an idea, but I woke from the dream And I stepped on the light bulb to see if I could feel It’s so hard waking up, but not as hard as it is holding onto something that isn’t real Wrote it down to remember it Did you throw up? When it came back, did it take the words from your mouth? Did it show you who’s boss when you took the day off? Did it squeegee your third eye when you went down South? Is it supposed to be beautiful or just the way you see it? Is the way to love hard or is it hard enough? Are the answers all clear, or is acceptance just a way out? Do you fake it ‘til you make, or are you just acting tough? Does it hurt when you need it? Does it bleed when you touch it? Does it matter when you mean it? Does it work when you believe it? Do you get a chill, and don’t it make you wanna chill? Do you get a chill, and don’t it make you wanna chill? Do you get a chill, and don’t it make you wanna chill? Do you get a chill, and don’t it make you wanna chill? Like a spaceship looking for a meaning on a planet That has evolved in revolutionary seconds Like an angry robot seeing red with no nuance You work yourself blind ‘til you no longer see the light

It’s super being blue when it finds you You feel so much that you could never be bored And that’s a fact, but there ain’t no facts when you’re ignored It’s black and white, but it’s a rainbow Its “I love you” one too many times Still hangin’ on, til it’s been too long To be ignored Now everything you’ve learned It’s what you’ve earned, so what’s in store? Real bad sad, real bad sad, real bad sad, real bad sad, real bad sad, real bad sad, real bad sad, real bad It’s super being blue, then it’s behind you There are no valleys or peaks anymore Don’t get too high, don’t get too low So I wonder, woah woah If I’m blessed or pleasantly depressed
7.
You’re reading Jeanie’s letters She says she’s feeling better Says she likes to cry Turn on your light, Gemini You wish you’d never met her See her in the window Looking down on San Francisco Saying she’s been here before Walking through the crystal store On legs just like black widow’s She sent you back your red dress Hopes it brings you happiness How long will she go on in a letter that’s nine pages long? You burned before you finished And who cares where the time goes? You’ll sleep until tomorrow And dream of better days As Jeanie’s legs have walked away From you and all your sorrows Doo doo doo da doo doo doo Doo doo doo da doo doo doo All the things I wanted to say I didn’t even have to say them at all If I’m blessed or pleasantly depressed
8.
Dirtbike 02:48
I wanna say I can feel your pain ‘Cause misery loves company That’s why you got so many friends But you won’t hear me ‘cause it’s just what I’m sayin’ No one knows just how you feel But you got me to let me know how you do Is this the death of a last man standing Go on and sniff the nose right off your face Special boy, look how far you haven’t come Special boy, little Dirtbike runnin’ from your Daddy’s gun Oh, it ain’t what they call you It’s what you answer to I didn’t mean to ruin your experience But unfortunately mine has done that for you Special boy, look how far you haven’t come Special boy, little Dirtbike runnin’ from your Daddy’s gun Remember when you had it to live for The victim inside you would find a way To make an excuse to live And for your habits to welcome another day Light a fire and then get bored with it Go on and sniff the nose right off your face Special boy, look how far you haven’t come Special boy, little Dirtbike runnin’ from your Daddy’s gun

In the night there is no turning Back to our first beginning All that’s left is a flashback ending That we can’t see ‘cause it’s never ending Let’s toss the phone and leave all hope behind Running after things that we can’t have No pain as long as we’re escaping And no shame if we just keep moving Don’t let your hunger die, Don’t let your hunger die, Don’t let your hunger die It’s only keeping you alive Remember when I first saw you You were then and there across the room Glitter, lights, eyes, and moonbeams And the silence of hanging on to a dream Somewhere in the night inside the haze I watched a mirror show you a lie It’s so hard when there’s nothing to hang onto But it’s so easy letting go when you’re super blue Don’t let your hunger die, Don’t let your hunger die, Don’t let your hunger die It’s only keeping you alive It’s only keeping you alive, It’s only keeping you alive, Don’t let your hunger slide I know it takes your breath away To believe that this all began You’re excited now and wondering why Maybe it’s because we’re all running out of time Don’t let your hunger die, Don’t let your hunger die, Don’t let your hunger die It’s only keeping you alive It’s only keeping you alive, It’s only keeping you alive, Don’t let your hunger slide

Born as fuck, born as fuck Don’t be so blue Thugs ruling the earth Ain’t nothing new Born as fuck One foot out of the womb One foot in the tomb Sometimes it’s so hard just to give a damn That might turn you off, but hey I don’t give a damn ‘Cause no one’s right and everyone is so plugged in I got my own fight, but I let you in again Born as fuck, born as fuck Don’t be so blue Thugs ruling the earth Ain’t nothing new Born as fuck One foot out of the womb One foot in the tomb See you dancin’ all alone in your very own apocalypse How hard is it to forget that that’s what it takes to forget Death on the inside, or the outside, or internet They got you now, your cell phone is the new cigarette Born as fuck, born as fuck Don’t be so blue Thugs ruling the earth Ain’t nothing new Born as fuck One foot out of the womb One foot in the tomb

Deep Caveman 05:13
I saw you yesterday I see you’ve been working on things How’s it going for you? Does it bother you? ‘Cause it bothers me to believe when I see anything That I believe is true When I’m the center of a world so blue Every time you’re smiling I see it setting you up For a sadness that you’ve know so long to bury it and fill your cup ‘Cause that feels right Just a deep caveman with ancient wisdom In a fool’s paradise Teardrops behind sunglasses in the sunshine Secret vices to pull you through the long night It hurts just enough to make you feel alive But all you really want is to numb that side Every time you’re smiling I see it setting you up For a sadness that you’ve know so long to bury it and fill your cup ‘Cause it feels right Just a deep caveman with ancient wisdom In a fool’s paradise Every time you’re smiling I see it setting you up For a sadness that you’ve know so long to bury it and fill your cup ‘Cause that feels right Just a deep caveman with ancient wisdom In a fool’s paradise
12.
I wanna meet you Hope you don’t mind if I get to close Worn out eyes give no surprise And what’s behind there you know Take me down and I’ll follow you Lift me up and goodbye gravity There are so many mountain tops And you are one of thee Where’d you go? Do you wonder, too? You’re only there when I think about you Which is all the time Dancin’ on the inside Is a spark ever really enough It’s like having the color blue With nothing to contrast it to We laughed so hard about how sad I can be Perhaps I should retire Looking in the mirror trying to find myself Sucks to be a vampire Where’d you go? Do you wonder, too? You’re only there when I think about you Which is all the time I wanna see you Hope you don’t mind if I get to close

"Cool Dead comes across like the Taoist maxim, “He understands that the universe is forever out of control,” translated through vacuum tubes and ribbon mics, with Collins playing the role of dive-bar philosopher and sideshow barker." Sean L. Maloney - Nashville Scene

Cool Dead is Collins' self-produced masterpiece. As punk as a freight train, as country as a weed-wacker, and, if you’re smart enough to know it, downright terrifying in its beauty, the 12-song record slashes its way out of your speakers like The Cosmics' live show yet soars like an eagle with talons gripping your sad little heart. From the most recent single, the instant punk classic “Asshole Eyes,” to the album’s epic condemnation of pop culture worship, “Am I Supposed To Care So Much” (with stylistic nods to both Lou Reed and David Bowie’s “Heroes”), to a lonesome and forgotten tune written by Collins’ friend (and Margo Price co-writer) Caitlin Rose, Cool Dead is a record for these times and the record that everyone around Nashville knew that Justin and The Cosmics would one day deliver.

Collins is a fixture on the Nashville underground scene and has produced records by Deer Tick, Diamond Rugs, Nikki Lane, T Hardy Morris, Middle Brother, and many others. He’s been on David Letterman. Pat Sansone, of Wilco, produced his last record and Elvis Costello is a fan. Justin & The Cosmics toured Australia in 2018, opening for Deer Tick.
